Hi to all, and a big thank you for visiting our FoolProof website.
I’m Alec Munro and I’m a 21 years old guy from Roskilde in Denmark.
Ever heard of the Vikings? That’s us! My mother is Danish. But Ironically, the other side of my family is Scottish. Hence, my last name. The Scotts were the poor guys who got attacked and pillaged a lot by my Viking side of the family. We’re all on good footing with one another now though.
At the moment I’m studying agriculture at a college in Denmark. My parents have a big farm near Roskilde, which has been in our family since 1729. One day I hope to take over and run it myself.
But for now I’m happy in University, and happy having the opportunity to travel, to see some of the world and to explore other career opportunities that can brighten my horizon.
FoolProof: If you have been to our site before, you may know I’m one of the new guys on the FoolProof Team. Through mutual friends I got in contact with Will from Holland, the other funny looking European guy on this site.
I’ve known Will for about 3 years now and we’ve become close friends.
Will needed a hand developing this website and I had a little spare time between my agricultural studies. Therefore I decided to help out and travel the world for a bit. I am learning a bunch of new things myself, so to speak.
Kings & Queens: Denmark has a lot of differences compared to the United States. For instance, we are a democracy, but we are also a kingdom. For a thousand years we’ve had a King or Queen.
We are also very different when it comes to culture and etiquette, and especially when it comes to consumer rights. Pay This! Denmark is a country where people have a lot of securities provided by the government.
For the government to pay for those securities, we pay a lot of taxes! For instance, guess what the tax is on a new car? Try 185% of the selling price!
But we also don’t really have to worry about our financial situation during our life and don’t have to worry about being taken care of when we grow older. Everyone is taken care of and protected by law. Everyone has the same rights.
We all know that’s not the case in the United States, where you really have to watch your back and protect yourself when it comes to your money, future and/or health. It also gives you great opportunities to make money and live the American dream.
Working for the FoolProof team has given me the option to travel around the country and to get to know a complete different culture, and meet really interesting people.
At the same time I have a good feeling about talking with young people, like we do in our speeches to high schools. And I like developing articles on money, as money is something all young people love everywhere!
We try to provide people like us with great and useful information on money. For instance: how do you balance your checking account? How to build your credit? But also fun stuff like buying your first car, and downloading music for free.
