FoolProof Spokesperson
Hiya, I’m Will from Holland, and as my name probably says, I don’t have to tell you where I’m from.
If you’ve looked at this site previously, you may know I live in the British Virgin Islands, a mystic place. It’s a long story of how I got there, but here it is in a nutshell.
As part of my University degree in Holland (Marketing and Communication), I went on a 7-month internship to the BVI. I worked as a trainee at a yacht charter company, and had great fun exploring the ‘real’ world of working and living on your own.
During my time there I had some great experiences and met really interesting people. One of which was Remar Sutton, an independent consumer spokesperson for credit unions. Remar and I started talking about who we are and what we do.
Remar liked the way I was expressing myself and completely out of the blue offered me a job, which I kindly accepted after I finished my internship. I didn’t have a clue of what I was going to be doing yet, or what this job was going to be about, but it sounded interesting enough… And it got me to stay longer on that Coconut Island!
And then this interesting ride started…
Together with Remar I’ve been starting up FoolProof a student consumer information Website. FoolProof is all about making you more foolproof in this free enterprise society when it comes to your money and your sanity.
And do you need to be foolproofed! For the last 3 years I’ve seen and heard things I never thought I would.
For instance, I’ve seen friends ripped off buying laptops, ripped off selling their dirt bike online. And why? Either because they had a lack of information or they didn’t know any better or they weren’t paying attention to the little things, like fine print.
Just recently I saw it all over again when Craig Barnes came aboard the FoolProof Team. Craig is a friend of mine I met while surfing in the BVI. Being from South Africa (and therefore, just like me, from an entirely different world), he also had his eyes opened about the carefree way American young people throw away money.
Craig and I hope that you can be smarter than that. The whole idea of FoolProof is to show you how to be independent. And believe you me, independence takes money and good credit. And what we say here works. Just last week, my sister—a week out of school--went to buy her first car. Knowing what I do for a living, my sister called me up.
“So Mr. Consumer Wise Guy,” she said, “do you have any valuable tips for me before I head into the wicked world of automobiles?”
“Sure thing,” I said, as I sent her to our articles on first time car buying.
The result? She saved herself a mere €750. That’s the equivalent of $964. And that’s a true story.
